I have to admit, I had heard about True Food Kitchen and was a little skeptical based on the fact that people had difficulty describing it to me. I would get words like “Healthy”, “Organic”, “Unique” and “Interesting”, when you say something like that to a person who would above all eat Steak and potatoes, there is no thrill in those descriptions. I look for local, farm to plate, organic and fresh, & all that jazz. But for me there is a tipping point where that goes from delicious and exciting, to bland, boring and has overtones of dirt. So I went into this somewhat tentative. I go into Scottsdale in my old neighborhood to get my hair done every six weeks, just off Scottsdale Road and Thunderbird. There are so many food options in this area it can be overwhelming. Most of it is pretty pricey and all you need to do is go 1 mile off Scottsdale road in either direction to find more reasonable options. If I want to try something I know will be pricey I always choose to go there during lunch first, this way if I am disappointed I did not drop too many bills. The Scottsdale Quarter is cute and pricey, but even if you can’t afford anything it is fun to walk around and check it out. At least parking is free. When you walk up to True Food Kitchen it is a very cute building that for me has sort of a throwback look. Very simple building with plants all around, kind of reminds me of buildings I would see in the 70’s growing up in Arizona. The kitchen and dining area are very open and have sort of a group dining feel. I got there early, right before they opened, and thank goodness I did, because by the time my tea arrived the door was packed with people waiting to be seated. I could see the kitchen staff getting ready for their busy day as I reviewed the menu trying to decide what to have.
I probably mulled over this menu longer than any other recently. I was trying to imagine the flavor and ingredient combinations in my head in order to come up with the best option for me. In the end I decided to go with the Street Taco’s and my friend got the Bison Burger. In hindsight we should have also ordered the Thai Shrimp Dumplings, but maybe next time. I wish my day would have permitted some cocktails, but it just was not in the cards.
After eating my meal I decided that people just need to change the way they describe the food. Yes, it is all those things I mentioned above, but it is also delicious, fresh, full of flavor and uses interesting flavor combinations to create fresh versions of every day dishes.
If fresh, organic, sustainable, biodynamically farmed, grass fed and delicious food interests you, than perhaps you should check it out. You can view the menu online at True Food Kitchen.

This weekend was my BFF’s Birthday party! I had a blast and I made some Strawberry Margarita Jello shots, which did not exactly turn out Pinterest worthy, but were delicious. I also made some cubed jello shots with fresh raspberries. My friend made Cherry Moonshine Cheesecake bombs and I used my favorite mason jar with a straw for a Strawberry Lime Tequero!
