My Television Addiction

Hi, My name is Stephanie and I have a Television Addiction! I try so hard to keep my “must watch” shows to a minimum, but I just keep getting roped into shows I can’t live without! Right now there are actually several that I keep hearing are awesome, but I don’t want to grow my list any larger that is already is currently! I stayed away from Breaking Bad and Dexter, even though I was consistently urged to become a fan. Recently I have been told I HAVE to watch Black Sails, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, True Detective, Girls, Downton Abbey and I am sure many others. While these may all be tempting, my DVR already stays busy and I need to be out in the world at least a little bit!

I wake up very early to get a few of my shows out of the way while sipping my coffee. If television started to interfere with my life I guess I would have to cop to my addiction and do something about it. But for now I do not consider waking up early an interference. In many ways the invention of the DVR changed my life! I can watch shows when I want to and with little interruption, but at the same time, it also allowed my list to grow substantially. I don’t feel like I am watching TV a lot, but I do often watch while messing around on social media. My Social Media addiction is a WHOLE OTHER topic!!

Here is my current television addiction list, favorites first. I will sort these in MUST WATCH down to casual viewing. My casual viewing list is because someone else in the house watches the show and I catch an episode from time to time. There are several kid shows where I could name the characters but don’t know the name of the show. My “Could Live Without” list is a little tricky. I think what that really means is I can leave them on my DVR for a few weeks and then watch them all at once when I have time. Besides ALL these shows I then have what I call filler shows, just some shows to keep on the DVR that I do not need to pay that much attention to, but can play in the background while I am researching or writing, like House Hunters or Jeopardy.

Can’t live without:
Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead/Talking Dead, Justified, Chelsea Lately, Vikings, The Tonight Show, How I met your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Hell on Wheels

Could maybe Live Without:
Bones, The Golbergs, 2 Broke Girls, Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, New Girl, Cosmos, Check Please! Arizona, TMZ, Fashion Police

Casually watch:
Late Night With Seth Meyers, Ink Master, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Almost Human, Ridiculousness, Best Ink, Raising Hope, Hello Ross, Portlandia, Chopped, Spongebob Squarepants

I may be missing a few on the “Casual” list. Some I only catch when I have nothing going on and really do not actively watch. It also does not include my binge Netflix watching. I am working on a Walking Dead Party and have started a party idea Pinterest Board HERE. If you have any good ideas leave me a comment or send me a tweet @CCtoMB.

These do not all overlap as far as the watching season goes, so it’s not like I am watching TV all the time, but it is a lot. How I met your Mother is coming to an end, so I feel like I have some room. What am I missing? Is there a show not on this list that you love? What show do I HAVE to watch? Or should I just start scaling back?

Well they say admitting you have a problem is the first step right, so there you go? Somehow I do not feel progress was made here today!?

Lol dang girl! You do watch a lot of tv! But I get what you mean, thanks to the DVR, you can watch it whenever you want. You don’t have to sit at the tv all day and watch whatever so you don’t miss something – and commercial free? AMAZING. We don’t watch any of the same shows, which makes me super embarrassed to admit what I watch. Ugh, let’s just say there’s a lot of Bravo in my life.

Bravo is great to listen to while I am blogging, although I have to admit sometimes I have to stop and pay attention to a good fight!

You are missing out (sorry because YES I see that others have already told you that you’re missing out on Dexter, which you ARE and it’s over but hello Netflix) if you don’t add Orange is the New Black to your list. SO good. The added bonus is that there has only been one season!!! Less to catch up on and all that.
