Everybody likes clean dishes. But for some reason my 10 year old REALLY likes clean dishes! In an effort to ease some of the household tensions we were willing to give Finishยฎ Quantumยฎ Dishwasher Detergent with Power Gel a try! Going up against a tyrannical ten year old with strict clean dish criteria wont be easy! I headed on over to Walmart to grab a package and see what happens!

It was easy to find, just followed the Rollback signs! This product in on Rollback through October. Pair with this coupon and cha-ching! Savings! Mega Value – Mega Savings!

We have chores separated so that my teen loads the dishwasher and the ten year old empties. If he sees spots or food left on he gets really upset and re-washes immediately. Then he proceeds to chew his sister out for not pre-washing the dishes good enough. She yells that she is not going to pre-wash the dishes just to then get them washed in the dishwasher. This goes on, and on and on and well you get the idea!

I want happy siblings and clean dishes but I don’t like wasting money on the re-wash!

Ok, he really does not look like this. But this is exactly how we imagine him. On Dishwasher Patrol. Inspecting every last detail.

All my teen had to do was make the switch!

A week later and all is calm on the Dishwasher front! All loads have been clean enough for the Dishwasher Patrol. Now everyone is happy with our sparkling clean dishes!

My teen looked up these 5 tips for saving water when using the dishwasher. I think with these helpful tips and Finish we are done with re-washes for good and I will have some more change in my pocket. So far Finish is the best dishwasher detergent that we have found.

**Please use adult supervision when letting children handle the product.**

*From the Department of Energy*
1. Check the manual that came with your dishwasher for the manufacturer’s recommendations on water temperature; many have internal heating elements that allow you to set the water heater in your home to a lower temperature (120ยฐ F).
2. Scrape, don’t rinse, off large food pieces and bones. Soaking or pre-washing is generally only recommended in cases of burned- or dried-on food.
3. Be sure your dishwasher is full (not overloaded) when you run it. Start with a Clean Dishwasher.
4. Avoid using the “rinse hold” on your machine for just a few soiled dishes. It uses 3-7 gallons of hot water each use.
5. Let your dishes air dry; if you don’t have an automatic air-dry switch, turn off the control knob after the final rinse and prop the door open slightly so the dishes will dry faster.

Thanks! I am glad we made the switch! I was using a cheaper option but probably spending more money pre-rinsing and re-washing than the little amount I was saving.

Finish is the only detergent I use in my dishwasher! And I think my husband needs to borrow the dishwasher patrol uniform…..maybe it will inspire him to do the dishes every now and then ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sometimes all you need to get a man to do something is a hardhat!! haha They need to make a dishwasher that is like a power tool/ tool box. Maybe that will help.

I have not tried Finish, usually I’m a Cascade lover, but those glasses look pretty nice and spotless! I might just have to try it when I need dishwasher detergent. My 4 yr old just got into washing dishes. I’m loving it, lol. She gets her step stool, I pull up a chair to the sink, fill it with a little bit of water and detergent and she’s set for a very long time.

It is SO cute when they like doing chores. Mine still have their days, thanks goodness. My daughter loved “Swiffering” I had clean floors for a few years.

Love it! He is about to get upgraded to loader when his little brother graduates to unloader. I have to often remind them I had to do it all by hand for years! ๐Ÿ™‚

Your pictures were cracking me up. We seem to have an issue here with dishes…either they aren’t rinsed well enough or in my case, I go overboard. There does not seem to be a happy medium. Thanks for the tips though…hopefully they’ll help me relax a little on the rinsing. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was always secretly cracking up over how that boy would get so worked up over dishes. I have to be careful the chore I give him because he is going to take it serious! Haha! We are six loads in, including ribs, and so far so good.

  15. September 22, 2014 at 7:25 pm

Can I borrow your Dishwasher Patrol and have him teach my husband his ways ? haha

    • September 22, 2014 at 7:39 pm

Haha! YES he would love it. That kid loves telling everyone what to do and how to do it! Oh boy!

  16. September 22, 2014 at 3:09 pm

Thanks for the tips! And, your pictures cracked me up!
