With three kids running underfoot it can be challenging at times to get even the simplest item to the table, for example grilled cheese sandwiches. I need to, make at a minimum 5, except that some people want two, so I end up making around 10. I needed to come up with a way to make these old favorites without standing over the stove for an hour, and give myself time to get the sides or tomato soup going. So here is what I did about two years ago and now this is the standard protocol. Crunchy and perfect!
Get your favorite bread and cheese, put as many sandwiches together as you need. Get a large baking sheet and lay parchment paper across the top. Butter each side of the sandwiches and place them on the parchment paper. Get your oven to 350 and then bake on each side for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
I also started doing a few sandwiches in peanut butter and either jelly, bananas or honey and the kids love them. I can make 9 per baking sheet, so I do one tray of all grilled cheese and the other tray 1/2 cheese and 1/2 sweet.
