District American Kitchen and Wine Bar

I had an absolutely fantastic evening at District American Kitchen and Wine Bar in Downtown Phoenix last week for a blogger event with my Blended Conference Pals!. As each dish arrived I was not only impressed with the flavors, but the care and technique that went into all aspects of our meal. I loved how many local companies and farms they work with and that they have a rooftop garden, it really came out in the fresh flavors. I am not usually a wine person, but since they were using local wineries, many of which I have heard of, I wanted to give them a try. They were good but I was, as usual, more impressed with the cocktails. I am looking forward to returning to sample the bar menu.

I should mention before I get too deep into my post, that they are having a great Father’s Day Special!
Reservations Required: (602) 817-5400 5-9PM on Sunday June 15th
This exclusive dinner entrée is a Grilled Choice Center Cut NY Strip Steak smothered with sautéed mushrooms and onions, Schreiner’s bacon and white cheddar smashed potatoes, and asparagus topped with chipotle hollandaise. Dad will even be able to enjoy his choice of either a handcrafted Arizona draft beer or glass of house wine along with the special entrée for only $22.

Ok back to my dinner!!

I was most impressed with the scallop! I have never liked scallops, and was a little afraid to taste this one! I am SO glad that I did, it was amazing! Light, tender, full of flavor. Peppered bacon and sweet onion jam!! Hello!!
Georges Bank Scallops
Griddled green chili corn bread, collard greens, peppered bacon and sweet onion jam, and smoked chili oil.

I also would recommend you start with with the Devils on Horseback appetizer, it was really good. I would love to serve these at a party!

And then this salad, it made no sense why the dressing was so delicious, but it just was.
AZ Citrus & Gems
Baby gem leaves, grapefruit and orange segments, shaved fennel, Marcona almonds and horchata vinaigrette.

I was in love with this next dish! It was right up my alley, the short rib was nice and tender, the potatoes had a lot of flavor and the jus was rich & tasty!
Oat Creek Nut Brown Ale Braised Short Rib
Creamed corn, garlic and thyme red thumb potatoes and nut brown jus.
Paired with Picket Fence – Malbec

After all this I could hardly even thing about dessert, but when it showed up I could not help myself! We had both of these and I am a sucker for chocolate, so you can guess my favorite.

Gooey Chocolate Butter Cake
Cartel espresso ice cream and Saigon cinnamon.

AZ Orange Creamsicle Sundae
Minted orange ice and coconut ice cream and macaroon.

Everything was awesome, from the decor to the staff to the food and I am excited to go back and dig a little deeper into the menu and the cocktails! We had a few people with allergies and diet restrictions and the kitchen was very accommodating. The feedback from them was that the adjustments were just as delicious. This is a gem in Downtown Phoenix, located inside the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel! I could see going there when visiting any number of great Downtown events and locations. I was pleased to find out they have a kids menu and that kids are welcome. It’s great to see the local artwork on the walls that is available for sale.

Oh, that looks so good! I really want those scallops! As I was looking at all your pictures, I was hoping against hope that it was a restaurant nearby…

The scallops and dates look amazing (and totally copycat-able even without the awesome plates). Have a good one 🙂

Yes, I am making those dates for sure! I already make something similar with goat cheese.

Looks delish. My sisters live in Scottsdale, I’ll have to ask them if they’ve tried it!
